Breaking Wind to Become a Crime. (Africa)

Breaking wind is set to be made a crime in an African country.
The government of Malawi plan to punish persistent offenders 'who foul the air' in a bid to 'mould responsible and disciplined citizens.'

But locals fear that pinning responsibility on the crime will be difficult - and may lead to miscarriages of justice as 'criminals' attempt to blame others for their offence.
One Malawian told the website Africanews.com: 'My goodness. What happens in a public place where a group is gathered. Do they lock up half a minibus?
Read the full story in the Courier Mail.

Well here we go with another ridiculous law, how on earth are they going to monitor this one? Is this not part of being alive, it's just one of those things, as one person that commented in the paper said, there are going to be a lot of dogs getting the blame on this one. This is just laughable, what about the smell in a public toilet, does this not also "foul the air",  some idiot sitting in an office thought up this ridiculous idea. I swear Governments are not happy unless they can make the public lives even harder.

There are a few comments on this one in the paper that will give you a bit of a laugh.
I really liked this one.

Look up 'Criminal Code Act 1899'. S245 (1) (2). Farting in public in Queensland is already considered an assault if it causes discomfort. Of course...gathering the evidence is a completely different matter!

I'm sure we all know people who should be locked up for this..obnoxious and persistent foulers. But like you said..wheres the proof lie

I'm not altogether sure that this African nation aren't just trying to get a lot of media coverage for some reason?

As for the QLD law, where was it when my family and I were driven out of the Sea World Aquarium in 1986 due to some incredibly overpowering flatulence by persons unknown.

Who's going to own up to that silent but deadly one, nobody will. This is just another stupid law to annoy and frighten people :-).

Hi Tempo,
How on earth do you convict someone on this? How do you show proof of the deed in a court of law?? LOL

Hi Starry,
You just never know with some of these country's what is going through the mind of the powers that be.

Sounds like you may have really needed that law at the Aquarium, nothing worse than being in close quarters when something like that happens. :)

Hi Windsmoke,
Nobody will own up to it, everyone will be looking at everyone else. The finger pointing will be going all over the place. :) All Governments I feel love to frighten people, it keeps them in line.
