No More IP Addresses Left

The global warehouse for internet addresses has run dry.

The non-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) doled out its last five batches of IP numbers that identify destinations for digital traffic.
"A pool of more than 4 billion internet addresses has been emptied this morning," ICANN chief Rod Beckstrom said. "It is completely depleted. There are no more."

The touted solution to the problem is a switch to an IPv6 format which allows trillions of internet addresses, while the current IPv4 standard provides a meagre 4 billion or so.

Some people might need to update routers or modems that connect computers to the internet.
Full story in the ABC News.

Explanation of the IPv6 here in Wikipedia.

I'm not computer literate at all, and they do say in the article that nobody will even notice the difference, but what about the people that have to change routers or modems? Does this mean one day you will turn on your computer and it just won't work? Does this apply to only those that have older style modems? I don't know the answer to any of the questions, are there even any answers to these questions. If you google IPv6 modems or IPv6 routers there are thousands of web sites about these, I admit I only read a couple, but useless going any further, as I had a hard time trying to understand it all. Simply all I really wanted to know was do I need to get a new modem, or can I just sit back and not worry about it at all, seemed like such a simple question.

Hi Windsmoke,
You are so right, it's the only thing to do, I came to the conclusion that if we needed to change anything we would soon know about it.
